Dinner with Don
Mr. Warmth, a ‘Great Guy’
It was somewhere around mid ‘80s. While eating in Dan Tana’s in West Hollywoodwith a group of about six when Dukey noticed Don Rickles (Mr. Warmth) and his wife sitting about three tables away.
Dukey wasn’t an autograph hound nor was he afraid to give credit where credit is due. On his way to the restroom Dukey simply said to Don, “I’m not sure who the best is right now but it’s between you and Rodney (Dangerfield). I really enjoy your work.” He didn’t seem offended at all that Dukey was bothering him during dinner. In fact theye talked for a minute or so. About 45 minutes later Dukey felt a huge paw on his shoulder. It was Don’s hand. Man, he has some hands. He said something to the effect, “Thank you for the compliment,” and talked with all of them briefly. Dukey never thought that crazy bastard would be so nice. Great guy!
