Men, Mice and Rats

It was Shnabs Birthday, circa 1976 as best as Duke can remember, in an apartmenthouse [CLICK] on Kenny Street in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Chuckles and Dukey shared the top floor apartment, while Shnabs, Worm and two others had the bottom floor. They pretty much never paid rent. The place was disgusting. Dukey remembers listening to mice or rats in the walls right next to his head as he was laying in bed. One of the varmints was running around the apartment once with Dukey in hot pursuit with a hockey stick. The rat found its way into the stove somehow and the hot pursuit landed a broiled rat. One late night they were all down in Shnabs apartment when Dukey decided to take him for a birthday run. He thought they had time for a last call at the local bar down the street before they took an unplanned tour of a huge VA Hospital nearby. A quick tour might provide some nurse numbers. The tour is pretty much a blur, but Dukey remembers putting Shnabs in a wheel chair and rolling around a few different floors pretending he was a patient while trying to get nurse numbers. He doesn’t remember that they actually got any numbers, but he does remember a nurse kicking them out and calling security because they were on the mentally challenged floor and were creating a scene. They bolted down one of the elevators and ran out a side door and jumped a few fences before landing in their Kenny Street apartment which was only a few hundred yards away. DOPES!!! Maybe the proximity to the mental ward was appropriate.
