Dukey’s Date with Fate

A Step into the Future

It was l1-26-1978 in Boston. Freddy , Mark and Dukey were out all night. Dukey recalls that the last slug was at the Elliot Lounge. Fred had a little squeeze, Lila (correct name later), he had been seeing on Comm Ave., a main drag in downtown Boston. She shared had a small apartment on the bottom floor with another chick. [CLICK] Two or three steps descended into the apartment. Freddy knocked. The door opened and there appeared a dark Italian mega-beautiful solid-looking piece of artwork the Lord had made. [CLICK] The Dope proceeded to do a three-step dive, roll and flip into the apartment. He landed on a chair facing the door. He’d flipped into love at first sight. Fred and Mark followed and the games began. The Dope didn’t pay attention to whatever they proceeded to drink because he had other things on his mind. The Beauty was wearing ripped jeans and what looked like an old beat-up Bill Belichick sweatshirt, but Bill didn’t start that clothing line for another 22 years. Fred was doing his juggling act with Lila (correct later) while Mark was competing with The Dope for The Beauty’s attention. Mark eventually went to the bathroom. Huge mistake! Dukey dove over immediately and started a new line he’d never used. “WHO ARE YOU?” Couldn’t stop saying it. Little did he know “Who Are You” by The Who probably hadn’t even come out yet or was just about to. Returning to the room Mark knew he screwed up and left the apartment. Fred made his way to the back with Lila (correct later) and the two couples played kissy face. Completely mesmerized Dukey and his newly acquired date said goodnight about 5-ish. Dukey and Fred made their way back to the house in Allston where The Dope immediately called this gorgeous creature and passed out talking to her while he was sitting at the kitchen table.
